Growing up.......too fast!
Well I cant believe it is already here. Not too long ago the girls would wake up about 20 minutes before they had to be out the door to catch the bus. Hair pulled back in a pony tail, they didnt really care how they looked. But now......

In the air
Dave is on the plane heading for Iraq. His first stop (at 3:00am) is London. How exciting! Except the only thing he will get to see is the inside of the airport. But hey! atleast he can say he's been there. He will be there for 2 hours, then fly 7 more hours to Dubai. Then who knows?
It has been a little tough here today. Reality is starting to set in. This last couple of weeks hasnt been too terribly bad. We got to talk to him alot. Atleast 20 times a day. (no joke) Now we dont know when we will get to talk to him next. We were trying to remember the last time we had gone more than a day with out talking to each other. Except for the time he was in Alaska (more than 9 years ago) we couldnt come up with anything. This will take some getting used to. I've been learning not to take things for granted. (tough lesson)
I found a scripture that was perfect for this time in our lives.
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13
Dave and I have been talking alot lately about how we feel this is what God has planned for us. We just need to trust in Him and know that He will get us through this. His word says He will not let us go through anything that we cant handle. What a great promise!

Fun in the snow!
Grammy took the kids to McCall today to play in the snow. They got to wander around and look at some of the sculptures. They had a blast!
Taylor decided she'd had enough of the snow and sat and listened to her ipod instead. Great bubble!
KING OF THE......block?
While the kids were playing in the snow I got to have some very much needed quiet time. Katelyn was a little concerned because I would be all alone. Ha! I told her not to worry, mom would be juuust fine. ;-) I can be a very selfish mom. I love my kids dearly but I also enjoy my alone time. As you can see someone was feeling a little left out. She was missing her kids and thought she needed some attention. I was trying to get some work done but I think she thought she was more important.

Too many late nights
This is what happens when you have to stay up till after 10:00 every night this week. Completely out before 5:00.
I have tried telling him he would be warmer if he would just leave his clothes on. But first thing he does when he gets home is strip down.
We had a great time at the churches Valentine party tonight. The theme this year was the 50's. There was alot of great costumes. We even had a surprise visit and song from Elvis. But he looked a little more like the older Elvis. Ha! It was really funny though, Jerry does a great job. The youth did a wonderful job of decorating and cleaning up. It was nice to sit and watch someone else do all the work. ;-)

Strasburg Look-alike Meter
People are always asking me who the kids look more like. I have never been quite sure. Its funny how people see things differently. I have been told all the kids look alot like Dave. Others would say all the kids look alot like me. One thing we do know for sure, Chance might look a little like his dad but he acts exactly like him!!! Anyway I thought this website was kinda fun. Next time someone asks I will just tell them this. ;-)

The kids and I had a great Valentines evening. I surprised them by taking most of the evening off from work and picking them up early. I had bought some caramel popcorn, buttered popcorn, candy and pop earlier today for a movie night at home. Before I picked up the kids I had stopped at McDonalds for our dinner. Then got the kids and went to Hollywood video. I did not plan that very well at all. Three kids in a video store trying to pick a movie they all would agree on, yeah right! By the time we got out of there the food was pretty cold. But it didnt matter, we were home at a decent hour, had a nice fire going, lit the oil lamps and watched a cute movie, but most of all we enjoyed each others company. (and yes we ended up renting two movies because they couldnt agree on one)

11:30 pm!!!!!!
It is 11:30 and look who is still up doing homework!
Taylor finally went to bed at about 10:45. She was making last minute Valentine cards.
There just doesnt seem to be enough time in the day to get everything done. We dont even get home before 10:00pm anymore. This has got to be wearing on the kids. Atleast they are still smiling. Chance made it to bed as soon as we got home. (Lucky dog.) Although we would all agree he's the one who needs the sleep the most. Ha!
Well it's actually happening. Dave is going to Iraq. He passed all his medical and physical requirements. Today he was cleared to fly. He will fly out the middle of next week. He still has alot of rules to follow though. That might be kind of tough for him. :-p We will just keep praying for his safety, guidance, and comfort while he is there. Its going to be a long 4 months.

Getting better
Well things did seem to go alot better today. The kids made it through school with no problems to speak of. I was kind of expecting them to call and ask if they could come home. But nope, they sucked it up and stayed strong. Bed time was much easier tonight as well. No fussing, no tears, just kisses and hugs. They were probably really tired though. It was quite a bit past bed time.
My day was much better today also. I started off having breakfast with Pastor and Betty. You cant help but be in a good mood after spending time with them. They are alot of fun and very uplifting. I got to talk to Dave a few times today. It looks like we will know by Thursday whether or not he will go to Iraq.
Dave was having a conversation with Katelyn a couple of weeks ago it was really cute, it went something like this:
D:In two weeks when I leave, in six months you will start to miss me.
K:Ya, but you know who will miss you the most?
D:Who
K:Mom, she's just a big 'ol ball of sissy (she says with a big smile) well, she cries at everything, commercials, cartoons, movies.
Well we've all had alot of tears lately, yes even Katelyn. But I didnt have the heart to ask her who the ball of sissy was now. But when things settle down after awhile, oh yeah! she's gonna hear about it. ;-)

Saying Goodbye
One last wave goodbye while going through security.Dave flew out at 8:00 this morning. It was hard to say goodbye but we got through it. When we got home we really didnt feel up to going to church so we decided to stay home and sleep the day away instead. Maybe we felt if we slept we wouldnt have to think about it. Maybe we were just emotionally drained. I dont know. But it did feel good to just sleep.
Bedtime was really hard tonight. Three kids and one wife missing their dad and husband makes for a lot of tears. The kids have each chosen a picture of dad to keep with them, that has helped for now. We have alot of people praying for us, we will lean on God for our comfort and strength.
We really miss you Dave. We love you lots

Getting ready
The reason for this blog is to journal our life at home while Dave is working in Iraq. A little something to bring home to him.
Today is his last day home before he leaves. We have been busy rushing around doing last minute stuff to get ready. Hopefully we dont forget anything. We are all a little on edge not wanting tomorrow to come. Not wanting to say good bye.
Dave and I share a favorite scripture, Jeremiah 29:11. "For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." We know things will be ok and that God is in control.
